plastic fuel line

Has anyone replaced plastic fuel lines from tank to flexibles at engine end with the same stuff? This is what is on my 1990 1.9 DG and I am assuming they are original factory fitting. Feed looks to be 6.5 mm although return seems slightly smaller. May have to clean off more dirt and underseal to confirm. Cannot seem to find any supplier of semi-rigid plastic fuel line that looks like it is up to the same spec as VW original. Looking at wiki, some may have replaced whole pipe run in rubber flexible, but guessing this would require plenty of support and clips etc to keep it in place particularly where it loops over rear axle area. Or has anyone replaced plastic lines with nickel copper pipe as used for brake lines? Used this years ago on pre-war classic car, but not sure if it is still considered good practice. Have not tried sourcing original parts from VW yet, but guessing they might now be unobtainable.
