Gutter edge ripping off

I have the black trim on the gutter of my van and whenever I attach the awning using the Figure 8 clamps I struggle to get it off again without ripping off the trim. The trim has been sikaflexed on but still comes off. I have a Westy pop top roof so fixing something to the pop top isn't an option. I want to know how other people have cured this issue as I am sure I am not alone in this.

Rob I have been suffering with the same problem for some time,,,,,,,to the point of leaving the figure 8 pieces attached to the van.
I have finally sorted my problem by fitting thinner chrome trim on each gutter which I purchased at Tatton Park in 2007. ( It was an on going problem I never got round to fixing , till now ).
The hardest bit was removing as much of the black adhesive as I could to fit the new trim.
Regards
Fritz,,,,,,,,,,
ps, an alternative idea is to open up one 1/2 of each of the figure of 8 sections with a file or something similar....

Like Fritz, i leave the figure 8 on and just slide the awning into it...it takes a knack, and only takes a minute once you get the hang of it.

For what it costs and no damage to trim or gutters go for ple & 3 or four clamps. Cheap & much better. Thre my figure of eights into back of shed & good riddance too.
