To get these to work would it just be a case of tapping into the side light wiring at the headlamps ?

I can't help you with your technical question but those are the tools of the Devil!
Seriously, make proper connection with crimps or soldering.

Yes - just tap into the side light wire - easy job and nice touch.

An mot testing station cannot give an answer on what is or is not legal they can only tell you if something is grounds for refusing an MOT certificate. If you want a definitive answer ask your local police station traffic department, I have rung them lots over the years and they would rather answer a question than write a ticket, saves a lot of paperwork.

Its not ilegal to have dual function lamps. You only have to look at a modern car headlight cluster which has the side, dip/main beam and indicator all behind the same plastic lens. I do find sometimes the indicators in these can be hard to make out at night.
To keep on the right side of the MOT and the police, your indictors and side lamps must show the corrcet colours when in use. Also the indicators must not be adversly affected by the operation of another lamp. The indictor must at all times be clearly able to show the drivers intention.
You'll have decide for yourself if they fit the rules.
Regards,
Mike.

Ditto that! Golfs and Corsa's are the worst cuplrits imho! Why put them on the inside of the cluster making you stare into the headlight to see it! Personally I think they all should all be on the corners like T25's!
Anyway, I wired mine up once but didn't like them, I think they made the van look too .... erm .... American!

Took 'em out again and they filled with water so had to use grommets and mastic to seal the holes up!

I took mine to a different mot place this year and they failed the van coz of the side lights in the indicator, although it'd never failed on them before . I asked my normal place and the said they didn't have a problem with them
I think it's luck of the draw really, police have never batted an eyelid at the van.

Smoked lights so in effect white light from the running lights but orange when the indicators flash because they are fitted with orange 21Watt bulbs.
Pretty sure these are illegal as the white light could interfere with the orange indicator light.
Those peeps that have past MOTS have done so because the tester didn't see it or the lower wattage running light bulbs didn't alter the orange indicator bulbs light output, in other words the indicators were still flashing orange light.
