Diesel engine number location

Ok this is embarrassing. I have a1990 1.6 td diesel camper, which I know has had a replacement engine and I want to make sure all the DVLA details are up to date It should be a JX engine but I can't find the number anywhere ..and yes i have tried Wiki ...Help

On top edge of block between injector pump and vacuum pump. But is usually totally illegible. I would leave well alone - mine has only the first two letters readable the rest have disintegrated into rust. I know that mine has had a different engine fitted but as the first two letters tie up it is not worth persuing.

Ok i had a look in said location and this is what I have stamped * JR 3 no other numbers visible....now I'm confused.

Someone else will be able to help on this but I think that that is a VW replacement engine no.

Thanks for your help anyway, at least I found a number of sorts......but what is *JR 3.....any takers..please

I would have thought that it was just a direct replacement for the original most probably done by the VW dealer/garage.

You Engine code relates to the Golf Diesl Block its not a JX block Codes for the Golf upto 1992 were JP -ME -JR -MF. 1.6D,
also upto 1992 Engine codes for 1.6TD block RA - SB were fitted to the Passat -Audi 80 -90. Early Galaxy.
