alternative - temperature and petrol gauges

o.k - so I can't get a new VW original analogue clock and new temperature gauge to replace current duff ones.

so forgetting the analogue clock as I do not really care about this - are there any options were I can remove the clock and have a temperature gauge and petrol gauge installed instead. (I noticed on my girlfriend car that both the petrol gauge and the temperature gauge are displayed on the same circular plate).

Just-campers do offer a version of both gauges but these appear to be different in size to the originals. Also it seems a case of either one or the other.

Any clever suggestions would be really appreciated. :ok

why not get a second hand set of clocks?

jason - that was also by first thought. but then i was advised by one of the chaps at Elite Engines, not to buy a second hand clock/ temperature gauge as often (for some strange reason) they do not work when transfered.


but i will certainly enquire aoput the second hand one.

If the gauges work when you buy them they will work after thaey have been transferred if done correctly so don't understand that at all.

The main problem is the flexi PCB and attaching to it but you can get around this with a bit of fettling. Once you remove the clock and current gauges you should have enough room to put a blank sheet of black plastic in their place and fit a new combination of gauges. You will then need to bring the wires from the back of the new gauges using eyelet tags, small nuts and bolts to link up to the flexi pcb locations were the original gauges were connected.

Problems.

You will lose the coolant warning led but there are other ways of overcoming that.

Gauges. Check that these calibrate to your senders, if you go ahead I can supply details of how to do this. Also check thast their depth is less than the current gauges otherewise you will not be able to refit the back panel and the flexi PCB will be un-secured.

First, have you checked that your Voltage regulator is functioning? If this fails then neither of your gauges will work and this could be the cause of the problem. The regulator fixes the voltage to the gauges to stop them weaving all over the place as the alternator voltage changes. Worth checking that you have 10.5 V actually arriving at both gauges. 'Fettling' means removing unwanted/excess material. Eyelet tages are just tags with a hole in them to which you attach wires and then secure to studs, bolts etc. You got a huge one securing the battery negative terminal to the chassis.

not heared that before , he could be spinning one!!!

while it is possible to fit different stuff to refit o e stuff is much much easier :ok
