my 10 y. o. lad wants a trials bike instead of his PY 80, so went to look at a TY80 today ; definite rattle from somewhere engine wise , seller tells me "it's the cooling fins , they always rattle , you've never heard it afor cos both your bikes are watercooled ".
?

Never heard this before , has anyone ?

I take it is a 2 stroke? could be the reed valve, sounds like a rattle in a good way if that makes sense, it is on the inlet side of carb, when worn they can vibrate. To get over that, performace reed valves would help. I did this on a DT175 some years back and cured the problem / made it sound better

the fins do ping & vibrate and watercooleds mask the combustion noise better.

NoTY80's dont rattle. But even if it does and the price is right they are simple enough to sort out.

My first Trials bike was a TY125 (yep not a 175) loved it.

Walk away at that price, that's way over the top for an ancient (but good) bike.
They were quite ringy-ding-dingy as I recall.

the problem is that there aren't that many purpose built trials bikes for kids,, its not a play bike it's a dedicated competition bike and just like kids motocrossers they always get good money. i'd say it isn't that expensive if its complete.

they weigh a ton mate,i got callum one,but they are so heavy so i got him a little beta for£650,was mint tho.then i got him a gasgas txt50 boy.great little bike,think i paid about £575(but that was a steal).the rattle probably is the fins but could be the rings.pi$$ easy to fit tho and always available.

try a slighty younger bike like a kx they can come with smaller wheels loads of people getting rid of trials/scrambler bikes at the min.. for £450 u should get a pretty good usable bike!

Little end (needle roller bearing) noise? very common (will need a gudgeon pin at the same time) not very expensive.
As long as it's not a rumble which may indicate a possible (crank rebuild)

Ta , fellas , i did walk away from it , and my wee lad didnae fancy it anyway , wants a Beta like his big bro . The seller said he had fitted new rings and top end bearing , but it was absolutely no comparison to that ebay one at 1200 smackers -- lovely that one !

Ive just bought a Sachs ZX125--road registered (2000) but NOT running. Had a new barrel and piston fitted. Has some wiring issues as it has previously been alight and repairs attempted/started.

Anybody got a wiring diagram ? I believe this bike is a copy of a Yamaha DT125 but not sure which model ?

Any body know much about Power valve set up ??
