Been rooting around for a while now and whilst there is loads of chatter about mpg's on 2.0L A/C - water cooled's - diseasals etc I cant find owt on the less common 1600 CT engines.

Now I know these get a tough time but there is a good few of us about that have them and just recently there is "I have a CT engine in my bus...." trend (so much so we now seem to have our own CT click of sorts ) and I am really quite curious to see what MPG's folks are getting out of theirs



So the list... what MPG's do you get out of your CT bus?

* I'm on around 17-20 though it's a 1776/twin webbers & engle cam - I was getting upto 23MPG but that was with 1600 jets in the carbs

* Pete a mate of mine not on 8090 has a Holdworth tintop (with get this 16k miles from new!!) and he claims he can get upwards of 30 mpg's on a run!

I have no idea, I just put fuel in and drive it, I think from memory last year on a long trip I had something like 23 mpg on a dieing engine

Putting fuel in a driving not looking at the mpg's is the best way to drive these as already said it would be nice to build up a picture and create a bit more info on these engines for others to find/refer too

I'll keep an eye on it on the next tank, but I only do minimal mileage in it, the alfa wins everytime when I need to pop out.

As Kate said, our fuel guage doesn't work and I've only been using it for about 3 weeks, so a very rough guess would be around 20 minimum, although we do need to get the timing sorted properly!

might be well worth getting the jetting sorted. if the jets are to small they will not give you better mpg,! what will be happening is that your engine will be running lean, ie to much air, not enough fuel, it will run hot! and not only be running ineficiently but damage it. sounds like you have a nice engine so a little time on the rolling road or oxy sensor will be worth the penny,s.

which one of us is this referring to?.....

Mine is jetted as per the guys at Dellorto.com suggested when I called them and it is a twin carb with a 'hot' saying that in one of these vehicles makes me laugh every time!.. ahem.. sorry it's got a slightly 'hot' cam in it too

I know, we have to get the timing put right first (not having a timing light is a pain).

Anyway, having run out of petrol this morning on the way to work and then again this evening while waiting to fill up again at tesco I can confirm that we're getting exactly 22 miles out of 5 litres of fuel - So timing first, then carbs and then we really will have a sweet running and hopefully, reasonably economical engine.

well that one way of finding mpg figures!

what jets do you have in them there carbs (and what are they)? 22mpg by my comparison is good - I'm still sub 20!

ibp's... I don't know those ones - from what I can tell most carbs seem to come jetted up for a 1600 engine
If you call the guys at eurocarb (0118 943 1180) they will tell you what jets you need and what will be in the carbs already if they are brand new.

Anyone have any updates/figures to add yet?

HAve re-jetted my carbs (yet again) and I am going backwards - last figures were around 16.5 (time for that lpg conversion I think!)

Set it up on a rolling road??? its the closest to "real world" you can get... what dizzy? timing set to?

Its prob about right... you are asking a quite low volumetric efficient engine to push around a 2+ ton vehicle... the wbx does anywhere between 16 and 25 realistically.. more grunt and a more efficient design..

30mpg from a CT... only if he is being towed a lot or never breaks 30mph...
