Subaru EJ205 engine OK?

A family member has said when their 1999 Subaru Forester dies from the AWD packing up, I can have the car for the engine, which appears to be fine. The car model is an STurbo, so the engine is an EJ205 (aka EJ20T ?) - 2 litre Turbo. I can't afford an engine conversion at the mo, but it's an interesting idea to throw around.
Question is, is it a decent fit for a Syncro 16? I currently have a 2.1DJ which is a bit gutless on the motorway, especially when running on LPG. I've got 225/75/16 BFG AT tyres, plus power steering, so lose a few more horses there as well. My MPG on petrol sits around the 20 mark. This should improve with the EJ205, but won't repay the installation costs I realise.
I've read that siting the turbo can be difficult. Has anyone in the UK done this? Is this a too expensive conversion and not worth it? Can I keep my power steering? I don't want to lose (too much) ground clearance either.
I've read as much info from RJES as my head can take today! blergh
Comments gratefully received.
cheers
Patrick.
