Hi all,

I've checked Wiki to make sure this question isn't covered there, and i can't see it - if it is please feel free to jab me in the eye for being a halfwit

I have recently bought my first T25 (indeed, my first ever 4-wheeled vehicle, having been a dyed-in-the-wheel biker thus far in my life) and despite her blowing a head gasket 12 hours after i'd collected her (new gasket, new thermostat, needed to get the head skimmed and pressure-tested, a swift £520 ), i am enjoying the T25 life.

However, my van does not have a mains hook-up, and i would like to put one in. I'm happy wiring one in, but could use some advice as to where the best place to run it into the van is. Should i flush-mount a socket on the outside of the van and run the cable through the skin to a consumer unit on the inside, or would it be better to place the socket somewhere inside the engine bay and run the cable up into the van from there? Or should i not bother hard-wiring the van at all, and just use an extension lead like this: -

I'm aware of the limitations of shore supplies in relation to Ah ratings.

A popular place to fit the hookup socket is on the inside of the engine access hatch that the numbr plate is mounted on. Then run the cable in up through the rear deck. The mobile rig has advantages too though, especially if you use a drive away awning as you can leave mains supply to your awning when you drive off, this is great with chest fridges & tv's.

I have my consumer unit and inbuilt charger for the leisure battery under the rear seat, I put the mains hook up plug under the van on one of the chassis rails, and drilled a hole through the floor under the rear seat for the cable to pass through (don't forget a grommet) that way I dont have an ugly plug visible on the outside and I dont have to open the engine bay or anywhere else to plug myself in.

with reference to the input socket, this is by far the best place for it, you dont need to lay down to plug it in, and no big holes in the bodywork..........
