Got back from work today to see a big oil spill under the new van

Had a look and it appears to all be coming from a tube ?

Just bought the van yesterday, had some paper work from a garage saying had just had 3.5 litres of oil added. Is that tube an over flow or is something seriously wrong?

That tube looks like the drain from the petrol pump, which I think means the seal has gone in the pump. Not sure if you can replace it or its a case of replace the petrol pump..

I 've had that before, it was from an overfill, so check level when engine has been stood and on level ground.

The engine is a 2l air cooled if that makes a difference.

I am preferring your answer, van is on a bit of a slope.

It appears to be an oil return pipe from an oil cooler ? I assume this thing is aircold ?

Have checked oil and it is below the minimum notch on the dip stick.

That pipe is definitely the drain hose for the petrol pump, which is operated by a pushrod from inside the engine block. If the oil is definitely coming from there, then I'd agree with fullsunian that the pump's seal has gone.

Yes the oil is definitely coming from there, is a consistent drip.

sorry for the 20 questions, but does that mean I will have to replace the petrol pump? Is it a to the garage job? Can I do (no vehicle expierence, but willing to give it a go ) Would the van even make it to the garage? Should it not be used (not even moved) until fixed?

question is, do I need large or small?

Are these standard piece of kit i can purcahse at any local shop, so I can get it sorted this weekend, rather than wait for delivery?

Surely the issue is that the seller/garage should be doing the repair as this is a major defect and obviously there when sold. Secondly, with this amount of oil loss you need to be very careful not to run so low that the engine gets damaged.......indeed, if this has been an ongoing fault from a previous owner, has engine damage already occured..

I would advice pressure wash oil leakage from under engine&gearbox ensuring electrics are protected.Run engine to see exactly where the oil is leaking.If it is the fuel pump which seems likely from the picts it could be the bakerlite spacer as where the pump is bolted to the engine there is a paper gasket between each side of the spacer.The bakerlite spacer can crack and loose oil the fuel pump has a diaphram and the pipe which is coming from the pump may have a blockage.Replacement fuel pumps for the 2ltr cu engines are difficult to obtain an alternative is to fit a facet pump which is electric (JKampers supply them) but a blanking plate needs to be made for where the mechanical pump was bolted to the engine.If you have just got the van it seems likely the previous owner would have known about the oil leak as from the picts as its losing a lot and would have been obvious and a on going fault. I would question the person who you purchased the van from about the leak as its not fit for purpose.I would agree with red westie that the repair should be down to the seller/garage.

Hi, on a different tack : is all the tinware present ? The wire from the thermostat looks very slack and could indicate a cooling problem as well !

put an electric fuel pump on and do away with the crap liftpump altogether. if you do that just screw a screw into the pipe to block it,, if not you need to fit a fuelpump.
