1.6 or 1.9 I'm in no rush so does it matter?

Ive seen this lovely 1.6 camper, looks great but the obvious thing is its a 1.6 diesel. Should I be concerned or go with it and enjoy it! I am in no particular rush to get anywhere when I finally have my camper but will I be disappointed in the 1.6 rather than searching for a 1.9? Any ideas please help!

Cheers

I just did the swap 1700 to 1900 and only did it because previous owner had booted it to death. The 1.6 and 1.7 are good engines if you are happy to cruise at 55 and drop to 2nd for hills (thats me that is). Nice and simple and reliable but like all things they do get old and tired. When yours start to smoke all the time and burn oil then change it but until then enjoy it as it is and look round for a good 1900 1Y. so you can be ready when that day comes. And dont forget to wave !

Excellent thanks for the tips. Half the reason I am buying a VW camper is to do the waveing bit! We hired a bay 3 or 4 times a year or so back and fell in love with the VW life.

Is anyone going to Vanwest this weekend?

Most important is the bodywork - if thats good then get it.

These diesels arent fast - but they are relatively hassle free....

Mine is just a 1.6D - toured all round Britain in her - slow on hills, 35 - 40 mpg fully laden and up Scottish mountains, Welsh mountains and the like. Speed and power are not everything in life, just enjoy it. I would not part with my engine for anything bigger unless this one is past resurrection ( I have rebuilt it once and expect to do so again!) I am now running a 4.5 ton Merc as well with much the same characteristics - top speed 60, crawl up hills but speed is not everything and life is enjoyable.
