Advice cutting a Fridge flue (exhaust) vent
Posted: 07 May 2009, 11:46
Hi there,
Just got a Electrolux RM122 fridge (gas and 12v), i've got enough space behind and around the back of it to mean I can vent the large grills inside the van (i.e. above and below the front of the fridge).
However, there's no getting round the fact I need to cut a hole in the side panel to vent the exhaust flue through.
My dilemma: from just offering up the back of the fridge to the insode panel to see where the flue will line up to, it looks like its going to line up directly with the 'sort of stripe of indented panel' which runs around the side of the van. Obviously if I have the exhaust coming through this it will look rubbish and be difficult to seal properly.
It looks like I'll need to cut the hole for the exhaust above the indent in the panel, but the supplied flue won't reach if I do this. I think I need to connect the fridge to the higher exhaust flue by:
- extending the vertical flue pipe from the fridge up a couple of inches, and then fit the cross piece of the flue to that
- or fit some sort of flexible tube from the vertical flue pipe to the sawn down cross piece of the flue to connect them
My question is: which way would be better, any idea where I can by tubing from or what materials to look for / avoid?
I hope this makes sense. As always, thanks for you time and replies.
