Hi
I have looked in the wiki but can find no info on tintinting my windows.

Basically i am looking to use the Mirror tint on the rear windows (only the legal ones) but what i want to know is whether it is pratical as a careful DIY project and if so where do i get the film and what film would be best to use.

OOPS sorry i did`nt mean this to go in tecnical :run

All tips gratefully received

It's not simple but if you take care and time it's emminently DIYable. Get the film from a local sign man ... look in Yell.com should be £25ish.

It's all down to preparation and cleanliness. I've only done it once and was pretty pleased with the result; used some film off ebay, here's the (very) basics

The glass must be completely cleaned and then a bit cleaner. Cut your film to the right size, newspaper templates are the easiest way, and put a bit of sticky tape on both sides to help you get the backing off it. Spray the glass with a mix of water and a small ammount of washing up liquid, which makes it possible to slide the film on the glass to some extent. Seperate the tint from its backing and smooth it on, sqeegee the liquid out towards the edges to get it to stick, but be careful not to scratch it with the squeegee...

For the best job, remove the glass so youcan work on it flat and get right up to the edges.

There's lots of "how to" guides out there on t'internet, mostly American, but they explain it a lot better than I can.

Have a go yourself, and if it goes well you can feel chuffed with youself, if it goes wrong just take it off again and no one's any the wiser......

I used these people: http://www.macrovitro.com/contact_us_page.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and found the film quite thick and easy to handle. They give advice and will deliver reasonably priced. I tried the stuff from Halfords and found it thin, kind of brittle and very prone to creasing.
Advice:
Take out windows if you can. It is easier and provides a degree of thief proving if you have the film running under the seal.
Set out your working area super clean like you were going to do surgery on a humin pepe.
Don't overdo the washing up liquid
use a good quality squeegee to smooth it down.
Don't work within earsot of children or persons of a feable disposition - the language may get strong!
Cheers
