Hi - My '83 T25's driver side wing mirror needs viagra for motorways and speed bumps. Is there any way to stop it from drooping down so that I have to keep correcting it out of the window?

Our's was limper than Larry Grayson's handshake ... take it off and CAREFULLY tighten the nut you see in't bottom.

I'm forever tightening that nut up - few months later its 'dumbo' all over again. They're the worst part of a T25 in my opinion. Could do with a dedicated thread on wing mirror options/adaptations really. The wing mirrors are, lets face it, total pants.

Thanks - Will investigate. Do you think it's the kind of screw that could be screw-fixed with some superglue or is that a bit dangerous?

heres my two penny worth..

this is worth a try.especially if they are original vw mirrors.as aftermarket ones are a bit rubbish.imo..

1.spray the nuts with plusgas.
2.take off the nuts.the spring.and the half round piece of metal.
3.give the tapered shaft a good emery clothing.
4.grease the shaft.and re assemble.

Add some locktite

no problem

never used loctite myself.the spring pressing against the nut should be enough.

I wouldn't use locktite, if it comes loose it'll be a bugger to do up again, I know the nut won't work loose

had the same with mine. Just cleaned and tightened it and all is now fine. Easy fix for once. Enjoy!

Ah - Woe is me. My experience today was not so easy, as the aperture where the spring tightening nut is is very awkward and I cannot seem to get the flipping thing tight enough. Maybe I need to go and find a suitably small socket for my wrench or something, because the adjustable spanner just isn't cutting the mustard, so to speak.

I had to buy new mirrors a couple of years ago
ended up getting them from JK and they have been fine (for once, not had to tighten them as yet)
I opted for the convex mirror which helps you see a lot more

Left hand mirror is crucial for saving the lives of cyclists. Had a few nip down that side when I've been turning left so its always angled down slightly for that reason. I think the abrasive trick is probably the solution other than fitting dirty great big truck mirrors. They're a bit like cats whiskers standard mirrors though. If they'll go through, so will you. Unfortunately these days when parked up its advisable to fold them in to avoid having them broken by wanton vandals and thats why they tend to loosen up over time.

Ideal would by "clunk dzzzzzzzzz" electric mirrors that appear out of the bodywork by magic. Would love something like that.

My sound is more "eek-eek-eek-eek-eek" with a magic hand appearing out of frantically wound down window to angle the flaccid mirror in such a way that I can see what is about to hit me as I swerve in to the a new lane.

I'm going to try the full disassembly route and find a flipping spanner that gives me some purchase on that nut <grrrrr!>
