Air cooled or water cooled or what?

Now, my 1982 air cooled 2 litre IS air cooled.... I know that because there is no radiator lol... BUT she has a lower grill on her front, i.e an air cooled front? Why is this do you think? Did any of the 82 air cooled come with secondery grills???

Do you think she may have been an early water cooled with a later air cooled engine fitted?

Or crash damage at the front and a subsequent new front on... which was the wrong type?

Is there any way of finding out?

Thanks!

Producton of air cooled T25s finished in July 1982 & in August 1982 the first water cooled petrol models were built. The 1.6l diesel was launched in early 1981. If you find your vin/chassis number & check it against a list of codes available on Brickyard you can find out what month/year your van was built.

It is possible that you have what was a w/c van now fitted with an a/c engine. It has been known for a lower grill to be fitted to an a/c van on top of the metal panel just for allegedly aesthetic reasons. :)

Also if the panel has been replaced then the only new'uns you can get now are the w/c ones - unless you nick one from a scrapper....
