The 2 litre engine will match up to the 1600 gearbox, but the ratios are different in the gears. you can run it but the engine will be racing all the time and is not ideal. (wear quicker) In other words, you need a matching 2 litre gearbox. Other consideration is your clutch. If you currently have a hydraulic clutch, then that can be used with the 2 litre gearbox. If it is cable, you will have to install a hydraulic one.
Otherwise it is a straight swap, just make sure you have matching electronics for the 2 litre (coil ect) as I am not too sure whether they are the same between the CT and CU.
And as it happens I am currently selling both a 2 litre a/c engine and matching box...
complete with electronics.

I've done this conversion and it is fairly straight forward, best to use the 2litre box as Rockhead-Rumble says, i kept the cable clutch tho and just swopped the front gearbox casing.
drop me a pm if you need any help.
