are reverse lights on the MOT?

my '86 t25 high top is having MOT on thursday and after checking the lights i notice the reverse lights are both not working. I seem to remember they are not part of the MOT but after checking on the internet opinion seems to be split.

What do you know with regard to this?

Also i take it, if it is not a fuse it will be the switch, where is this and is it a simple job?

Many thanks for your help. Mark.

It will only fail on reverse lights if you have 2 lights and one is not working.

I thought that if they are fitted, they must work? But I maybe wrong.

I remember having a reverse light lens on my old beetle and they failed it, so I swapped the lens for a reflector! Or maybe that was a fog light... :?:

This may help http://www.motuk.co.uk/manual/contents.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I had a van with the reverse bulbs in and the MOT guy said if they are there they have to work so he took the bulbs out.

Some testers can be silly about it even though no need for reverse lights!! If they fail it for it give vosa a bell!

get your facts straight guys and know your stuff. its not that difficult to understand if you take time and read through it slowly.

i`m not surprised that many people have false ideas about the mot laws, a lot of testers have a poor idea of the laws and that will rub of on those who come in to contact with them.

there are a lot of grey areas, but common sense should prevail as the tester can use the advise section available to them to cover their a*** if they feel an item is a borderline decision.

with the "not so new" computer system it is difficult to fail something like reverse lights as the provision is not there on the computer too do it.

What relevance has the roadwheels section to do with reversing lamps?

http://www.motuk.co.uk/default.asp" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

try that then.

http://www.motuk.co.uk/manual/contents.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

or that to be more specific.

idea was to post home page so that those that weren`t aware of the site could have a browse.
