I've had a look in the wiki pages and either I missed it or its not there but... when fixing rust in seems what do you use to put back in the seems? I'm guessing sanitary silicon is out of the question!

hi, when i did mine i used seem sealer from just kampers it comes in a tube for a mastic gun its about £6, i think u can get it in a tin too

The JK seam sealer is called TEX. I used this recently after some welding work and I have to say I didn't get on with it - it's quite "wet" out of the tube and shrinks a lot on drying (lots of solvent!). I ended up going back to brushable seam sealer which doesn't seem to shrink soo much. BUT brushable would be a nightmare on external seams as you want a nice neat application - something I've failed to be able to do with a brush! Bottom line, when I do any future seam work I'll try a different brand of seam sealer in a tube/cartridge (as TEX).

Tiger Seal?

An adhesive and sealant that's used to stick high-top roofs on, available on ebay (e.g. item no. 180324659211), and from some local motor factors / bodywork places.

This may be a really dum question, but what is the sealant there for? Does it just seal or is there another desirable characteristic?

If it is just to seal then any silicon based sealent would probably do. I guess you don't want too much flex under paint work so it would need to set fairly tough - not too soft. And it needs to hold well to the metal work.

I bought some window sealent that was recommended on here for the windows Can't remember what it is off hand but it is really thick and comes with nozzels that are about a cm wide. You really need a material that can be applied using a smaller nozzel.

Also, handy tip for using silicon sealants from a tube / nozzel arrangement - when finished with it squeeze a cm of sealant out of the nozzel and let it set. When you need it again just pull this out of the end and you can use the same nozzel again.
