Hi All

I have just bought mt first Campervan. Just looking for some advice regarding security other than the locks provided.

What do you all think is the best defence as i have nothing on my van.

fit an alarm/immobiliser.and something like this http://www.autoelectricsupplies.co.uk/product_list/30 dont be surprised if you dont get a lot of replies.because discussing security measures,on a forum is not a very good idea.

I fitted an alarm/immobiliser to my van but use a crook lock as well. If the van is going to be laid up for a while you could take the king lead from the dizzy off and take it in doors with you.

Hey thanks for the advice and another thing...........................................whats a king lead from the dizzy doodaa?

i think he means the high tension lead.it goes from the coil to the centre of the distributor cap...

I'll try and explain; when you look at the engine the dizzy (distributer) is the thing with 5 leads attatched to the top of it 4 leads goto the spark plugs and the middle lead goes to the coil (can shaped thing ) the king lead is the middle lead if you remove it the engine wont get any spark when you try and start it hense they cant drive it away. Hope that helps

I'm starting to think about security myself as my van is going to have to be parked on the road soon. The problem with these vans is they are more likely to be targeted by pro's so you need good security. Disc Locks (Discloc) are good as they cover the whole steering wheel and they are Thatcham rated. Don't know if they do one big enough for a Dub wheel though. The trouble with crook locks is no matter how strong they are they can easily be removed by simply cutting the steering wheel.

I'm going to get an alarm/immobiliser of some kind and probably a wheel clamp as well. I like the idea of visible security as it's more likely to stop someone trying to break in and damaging the van.

There are probably lots of things you could do yourself but as Rob said people won't want to say exactly what they did.

Iirc there is a Disc Lock type steering wheel cover that will fit a T25 Caravelle steering wheel but not the larger Transporter one.

Thanks for the reply mate. I think the way forward is an immobiliser, went to Halfords earlier and well lets say..................Sh*te

Search for GPS GSM tracker on ebay. You can get a tracker for about £130 and a pay as you go SIM and if the van does go walkabout you can text the tracker and it tells you where it is. If the GPS isn't working because the van is in a building or truck you can track it by going to a mobile phone tracking website and entering the gps mobile number and it will tell you where it is based on the mobile mast triangulation. Not as good as the GPS but still good enough to find the bus.
