I still got a petrol problem

VW 2.0 Transporter. Camper conversion. Air cooled.

Had a new petrol tank fitted last year and its been stinking ever since, took it back to garage, who say cant find leak, cant see anything blah blah. So they cant fix it. Been fobbed off.

However I still have a petrol leak. Any suggestions about where i can take it. My lovely maintenance man wont touch anything to do with petrol as he blew his garage up and never got over the shock.

I'm based in Sheffield.

Have a look at the expansion tanks under the wheel arches and their associated pipework, they may have come off as they are quite difficult to fit when puting a tank back on.

I had a similar problem once and it turned out to be the expansion bottles. A previous owner had fitted covers over the batteries and used self tapping screws to hold them in place. It turned out that the screws had gone straight into the expansion tanks. The smell only started when I removed the covers.
Long shot but worth a look.
Good Luck

As others have said, check the pipes to the expansion tanks, mine were shot.

maybe this should be in tech but

there is a pipe that goes between the 2 breather pipe across the top of the tank the rubbers go hard and leak.

Either take it across to Si brickyards or give Matt Autowattis a ring (he's in sheffield and maybe able to help ....Autohausdolby - Mobile VW Specialist in Sheffield - Call 07969796505 )
