Brake Servo Vacuum Hose (Part 2)

As previously posted in part 1 of ''Brake Servo Vacuum Hose'' I need to replace the 8'' (approx) hose that runs from the n/s inlet maniflod up to the non-return valve. The hose appeared to be held in place by a Jubilee clip at each end. Simple to remove I thought, naively. Herr Volkswagen has made things difficult as usual.
The top end of the pipe was easily disconnected by loosening the Jubilee clip & pulling the hose off the non-return valve. I loosened the Jubilee clip at the bottom end & slid it back to reveal a circular metal ferrel holding the hose onto the oulet pipe on the inlet manifold. Has anyone ever managed to cut/grind one of these ferrels off an alloy pipe without causing damage to the pipe other parts?
I have a 4.5'' angle grinder but that is a bit heavy duty for this job. I also have a Dremel but that may be too feeble for this job. Any ideas, please?
