Bearings gone on the alternator? I have just got mine back from the garage after having the same problem - they refurbished the alternator and now silent!

It could be the belt too narrow in its section causing it to run on the bottom of the pulley "V" instead of gripping the sides as it should. This could be on the crank pulley or the alternator.

Check you have the correct belt, not just in length but cross section as well

Hi rugchucker i have tried a 9.5 x 875 and a 10 x875 with no success could the crank pulley be worn?

Its a possibility, try chalking the pulleys and it will show if belt is hitting bottom of V

Just a thought I have read on here and other sites that the bottom pulley bolt has a habit of comming loose on some engines. If it is quiet without the belt and only noisy with it, it could well be a loose crank pulley. ?
