Can anyone help?
I have replaced my dizzy (1.9 watercooled) only to find that it seems the problem lies deeper. I have read that some shims need replacing under the drive in the case. My problem is i cant get the drive out. It lifts up so far then jams, i have removed the fuel pump and can see in the engine.
I question that pencil theory

Last post by cj...' External circlip pliers, easy-peasy'.... Might well be worth a try.

Do not drop the shims.

Thanks, replaced my shims - external circlip pliers worked a treat. I have rotor pointing at number one plug firing order 1432. The drive goes clockwise when cranked. It just wont start i've checked for spark at the plugs and this is fine plus fuel is being delivered. I'm surley missing something here. I'm not positive i've got the incorrect info for the timing. Any ideas?

you could be 180 degrees out with the dizzy shaft

Fuel pump has to be taken out and the rod that drives it or else the dizzy drive will never come out..

Lift and turn, lift and turn t'other way a bit, lift and turn 1st way again.


I used a piece of flat steel with 2 slim magnets on

Have you got the leads on the correct plugs?

No 1 is front right,
next to fire is No 4, rear left, (as you look in the engine compartment from the rear of the van).

Or, are you sure No 1 is on compression with the notch on the pulley in line with the crankcase centre join line. (could be 180 degrees out).
