Rear Trailing Suspension Arm Bushing Install

Hi,

I am attemting to install one of the bushings into the trailing arm.

I have a nut and washer onto a 12mm piece of all thread which goes through a 12 mm thick pressure pad on one side of the arm and then through the housing and through the bushing and a washer and another nut.

I am finding that the bushing will not pull in even with lots of green soap solution.

This arrangement appears similar to the arrangement in Bentley, although there appears to be a cylinder numbered 3053 at the top of it. Perhaps this stops the rubber spreading out ?

Anyway if any of you have been down this road before, and have any suggestions I would be pleased to know.

Regards

Dave

The only way I have found todo these bushes on any vehicle is with a large vice and some big sockets - if you can find someone with a press that's the 'PC' way to do it

The proper tool is a tapered sleeve.
Bit expensive and a bit long winded.
Grind a light leader on the bush and wind it in with the vice, not a problem.

Hmmm,,,, with the FLANGE on the bush causing it to slide all over the shop, I was resisting the same suggestion for fear of being known as a cockcup merchant.........

It's a bit like shooting for the 'back nine' during a round of bedroom golf,,,,,

I have the reducing tube here and a press if required, nice and easy no need to trim anything, but it can be done without as Simon says

Hi,

Thanks to all who replied.

I shall try to obtain a piece of tube this morning in order to give the bush some support as it is being pushed in. If that fails perhaps the grinding option or the ultimate option the VW Van centre.

I will see how it goes.
