Any Advice On Changing a 2L CU Engine?

I've just bought my first wedge & whilst there's a long list of stuff to do I'm going to swap over the engine first as it's haemorrhaging oil all over the NS rear shock.

Can anyone help with any handy hints, tips, advice or beneficial upgrades before I go wading in?

where is the oil from and is the motor actually dead??

subura will be a mare to fit as you wlll need to perform a watercooled conversion too.

cu aircoleds are hard to kill usually they only need a top end rebuild at the worst ,oh and a decent set of carbs :ok

Jason,
Well it's got a good splattering all underneath but it's most obvious under the NS cylinder head & over exhaust box.
It still goes but it does drink oil, perhaps a litre for 30 miles, more thirsty when around town or in traffic.

Pepperami,
Thanks but no thanks. It's gonna stay VW

OK! It would appear as big herb said it could be something really simple. Check everything first. If it's losing that much oil you must be able to see where it is coming from. Wash the engine then run it to see where it is coming from.

OK I'll get under there replace the gasket & give it a good clean & let you know.

Thanks for your prompt replies. If this works out I'll have a spare CU engine for sale as I've gotta admit I've already bought another engine which now feels a tad hasty

Keep it as a spare you'll need it  You will probably want to upgrade it as Steve has at some point so keep it mate.

Taken off rocker cover & the gasket had a huge kink in it so didn't mate with all the surfaces. Will get a new gasket & give it a go.
