Starting problems.....

I have a really weird problem i hope someone can help a newbie in trouble.
I have a 1990 westie atlantic 2.1 petrol, when the engine is cold it starts normally first time a bit slow but always on the first turn of the key , however when i have been driving for a while and stop to get petrol for example, when i try to start the starter just grinds over really slowly and does not start. I have checked the power out of the starter battery and the leisure and they are both totally charged. I normally have to bump out of the garage to get it going!
Is it likely to need a new starter motor? Or something to do with the coil? Please help..... :?

The end of the starter motor sits in a bush fitted into the gearbox.
The symptoms you describe are consistant with the bush being worn.
The bush costs about a pound,

Yeah i had a read of the article and it suggested a high pitch whining noise if the bush is worn and it doesnt seem to be doing that?

My vans starter bush was replaced a few weeks ago. (Thanks Mark and Ruth :ok )
Today it stalled and wouldn't start at a junction to a busy road, so it aint the bush that makes warm start hard.
Don't know what the answer is mate (jumping around in a blind panic with horns bleeping behind you, usually works though)
I see you're Medway located - maybe we could arrange to come and take a look? Suck teeth (as Emma would say)
