oil warning buzzer

I have been having problems with my temp gauge working intermitently,so as you do i gave the dash a little tap and my oil warning buzzer started up,I stoped the engine and checked the oil all was ok so started up and went on my way. drove about 20 miles no problems. I came back out about half hour later drove off about 100 meters and it started buzzing again. do you think there is a problem with oil pressure or do you think i tapped it a bit hard? Oh and my temp gauge still does not work.

If your unsure (as these buzzers arnt that reliable) fit an oil pressure gauge too. My mate has just fitted one as he had the same problem on his syncro. Look on the wiki and see what Laurie has to say about them, worth taking note that he is an expert so i would trust anything he gives his opinion on really.

You may have broken something on the circuit board causing the buzzer to sound, equaly you may have 'fixed' something, causing the buzzer to act correctly.
Always worth an oil and filter change, If you havent done one in the last 1000 miles.
You need to do more investigation to check the oil pressure switches are doing their job, and correctly reporting the oil pressure.
If your oil levels are correct, I'd doubt you have low oil pressure after a few mins driving.

Also check it's not overfull, as frothing can create these symptons after a quick high-speed run... I'd say normally on a low pressure engine, it'd take 10 or 20 minutes and usually after slowing from a high-speed mile or two, it would be noticed (buzzer) when braking or cornering (coming off a dual carriageway or negotiating a roundabout).
I have known on a diesel the preessure come down to buzzer trigger after as little as 5 minutes (and corroborated this with a screw in test-gauge).
