The lead between the Altenator and the starter motor

Hello,
My lead between the altenator and starter motor has melted and is nackered (basically with age) Does anyone know where I can gte a new one ?
It is for an Aircooled 1982 Petrol 2.0ltr Bus !!!!
Help please its the only bar to getting it back on the road

Alex,
I would think that an Auto Electrical outfit in your area could make up a replacement copying your melted original.
Or you could try German Swedish and French (GSF) online or at.............

http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.eu/V ... mepage.php) will supply the cable & terminals as required, if you feel competent enough to crimp a couple of terminals on.
I did this for daughter's Mini recently, glad I did as the insulation was melted right through at one point!

This will be either second hand (25/30 year old) or something that a competent auto electrician will knock up for you in 15minutes for a tenner.
There is a word of caution here....this cable is carrying a very high current load so the gauge of the wire needs to be a least as heavy as the one you are replacing, also the ends need to be properly crimped or even soldered because if they are in the slightest bit loose they will create a high resistance and generate heat...melted wire...back to square one.
