What is the difference between pre and post '86 starters?
(1.9 petrol manual)

I have searched the forums and the Wiki but couldn't find the difference. I did find some photos of both but cant see a difference.

Just bought a new one from GSF for my dads van which is an 85 van. I took the old one with me because of the surcharge and now that I'm home I noticed the invoice has the part number for the later starters. I dont have the new box as the old unit gets sent back in it. And I cant physically compare them either as I gave the old one back. I dont want to open the plastic packaging if its the wrong one.

Haven't tried to fit it yet as I dont have access to the van at the moment.

Any ideas?

Thanks

As far as I can gather the only physical difference is the position of the solenoid.........

early ones are shorter and slightly less powerful, standardised 86my on with one size for all, but they are interchangeable

also the later solenoid has a longer bolt for the electrical wire , think these are the screw on alternator wire type, not the plug in.
