I dont know how much you have read up about this but it is far from straightforward.

I suggest you do a search on here and on the brickyard to find out what you need to complete the job. If you then post on here what you think you need we can go from there....

Someone with a bit more time might provide some better pointers...

Hi Dubrunner

I have recently completed this exact conversion. If you read the information on Brickwerks it tells you basically what you need to do and the parts you need.

Because you start with a non turbo engine it is a bit more complicated as you do not have some of the required parts for the conversion. The list below are items you need to obtain over and above the AAZ engine which should include the injection pump and turbo.

JX Exhaust manifold ( one was sold on Ebay 2 days ago for £160. Not sure you can get this part new. )
JX Turbo.
JX Exhaust down pipe and silencer.
JX Exhaust silencer mounting bracket.
JX Sump.

I was lucky enough to buy off Ebay a Passat 1.6D engine that had been fitted to a T25. This gave me the Exhaust manifold and sump. From the same guy I bought a second hand exhaust silencer. The Turbo was not usable so I used the AAZ part and had to re index it to fit. Re indexing is covered in this forum in the Wiki section.

If you cannot get a JX Exhaust manifold the AAZ can be used but you then have to modify the engine mounting bracket to clear the turbo. A lot of this information can be found on this forum and the Brick-Yard forum ( under T25 diesel upgrades ). You also then need to fabricate a non standard exhaust system.

In summary the conversion is straight forward once you have obtained the necessary JX and AAZ parts. It is more expensive starting from the 1.7 as you have to buy the JX parts which are getting more difficult to obtain second hand as most people are aware of the AAZ conversion.

If you decide on this conversion you need to make sure you obtain all the parts first to minimize the time your van is off the road.

Hope the above helps.

Thats probably the best first post i've ever seen. Well done that man (and welcome to 80-90).

Sounds spot on to me.

I ended up buying a 1.6td T25 so i could get all the JX bits! Good luck in your search...
