Hi All,

got my first camper, now thinking of getting rid of the fuel guzzeling waterboxer with something more reliable/fuel efficient.

i'm after the following answers please if some one can advise:

1. will a five speed diesel gearbox go straight in?

2. will a AAZ or TDI engine fit straight onto a 5 speed diesel box.

3. does anyone have a list of what you need if fitting a AAZ or TDI (I taking it, that the AAZ is the old 1.9td lumb thats been knocking around for years)?

yes, ideally you use the diesel specific 5 speed mount which you get with the box, if you are at present 4 speed you'll need the gear linkages too, esp get the rear part from a diesel as the cup is a different length, but the stick and the front linkage is speed specific
yes, you may have to swap the seal "pooh" plate depending on the engine I think, but I don't do diesel, see below

ps fuel economy will probably not reap you the cost of conversion anytime before the shell rusts away unless you do hefty mileages and why would you want a tractor engine in it anyway, horrible noisy ,dirty rough things
to do a tdi properly you'll need to mod the box ideally, not cheap.....

lpg it and stay as you are imho, but unless you do more than 5k miles a year just drive it as it is as the cost benefit and space lost doesn't justify it
