Ive just tensioned the fan belt on my 1.6 diesel, just below and behind it running on twowheels is another belt, which drives the water pump, ( i think), this is very loose, and i cant see anyway of taking up the slack, any ideas please. Oh its a replacement engine from a Golf if thats any help.

If it's the same as the standard diesel then the tension in the other belt is controled by shims in the middle pully. Take shims out to make it tight, I had to take all but one out on mine with a new belt which doesn't seem to great.
