Tappets, hydraulic or solid, how to tell ?

Some of our WBX engines will have been retro fitted with solid tappets, often by an engine re-conditioner.

Is there a simple way to tell what type is fitted without removing them ?

I know mine are hydraulic, I just would like to know how to tell for future reference (as might others reading this).

(Onwards and upwards in my learning curve on WBX's :) )

Hydraulic tappets will have a certain amount of measurable lash (movement) via the valve gear, where as solid ones will have none.

PS, You would have to check the other 3 on the same bank to confirm this....

Ah - as simple as that - I did wonder if one could tell like that.
