Overheating diesel

My van started overheating back when we had the really cold weather. I changed the thermostat which made no difference.
The radiator seems to be barely warm so I suspect the water pump may be faulty?
Anything else I should consider b4 replacement?

Have you considered the possibilty of the main rad being partially blocked,,,,,

How is the Cab heater performing ?

Fritz , good point, no I had not thought of the rad as it was cold ...... the cab heater works slightly then nothing at all.

yes indeed ... no squeal from the belt ... some antifreeze residude around casing of waterpump but no leaks? I think the alternator may be a red herring as I think it is on its last legs anyway ... it was working (just) until today when no red light showing on dash

well it coud be as Fritz says or maybe the impeller in the water pump has crackered..but its strange the alt is not charging.these symptoms are usually belt problems.did the alt stop working when the engine started over heating? or has it been a seperate matter...sorry to say i dont know other than that.but wait for more replies before you take it to bits..sorry m8 :ok
