Smokin'

Here we go. Just bought a T25 with engine problem, was told poss fuel pump problem....and also not been run for a 'while'. Information is vague because it had passed thru a few hands before I found her awaiting some tlc.
However, we got the engine running on Sunday, and it does continue to run so I think we can forget the fuel pump as a red herring.
The real problem is the quantity of smoke, which would explain why it's been taken off the road.
Engine type is a CU, 2.0L petrol flat four air cooled.
Compression test revealed three nice looking plugs all reading around 150-psi, and a third oily plug with a reading of 130psi. Looking in the back of the van, the dodgy cylinder is the closest one on the left hand side.
I hope my explanation makes sense, we're suspecting a broken piston ring but I would like some other opinions!
What do you think? engine is currently being removed and looking at prices for pistons/barrels...
