Propex exhaust racket!

Hi Folks

I'm after some advice from all you propex users.

I've just fitted a propex heater and I'm a bit surprised by the noise out of the exhaust.

It sounds really uneven - if that makes sense, like a car exhaust with an uneven tickover.

From inside the van it reminds me of trying to sleep at a music festival with a bassline rumbling away!

Is this normal?

Should I maybe try shortening the exhaust?

Has anyone tried fitting a silencer to their exhaust?

Am I just too light a sleeper?!

Ta for any advice

Barney

I've just fitted mine and it's relatively quiet.
I didn't change the length the pipes that came with the kit.

We don't intend using it when sleeping.

If I remember correctly the inlet and exhaust pipes should be the same length, ie balanced. But not sure if that would cause the symptom you describe

Is it new ??? How much gas in the bottle etc?

Yeah - tis new...and I will be giving propex a shout, but just wanted to make sure this exhaust humming/burbling wasn't normal.

No problem with the sound coming from the actual box itself - just the exhaust.

Full bottle of propane...but it's just occurred to me that maybe the regulator is shafted - could that account for uneven gas flow into the unit and out the exhaust...or is that unlikely?

Thanks folks

Barney

Have you got it clamped up correctly ? sounds like its vibrating , trying getting underneath it and seeing if you can see if it loose anywhere , remember the exhaust gets hot very quickly

Inlet and exhaut pipes are both secure, facing the correct way and the recommended distance from each other. :D

Yes, it's noisy with the exhaust on...like the exhaust gas is coming out unevenly. Not making a spluttering sound or anything really loud, just an uneven rumbling.

Does that sound normal or should the exhaust be giving a more constant note?

That's what mine sounds like (great description Matty), but I wouldn't call it loud.
You can hear it in the van but the fan is louder.

Yep - that's the noise described perfectly.

Guess I'll just have to get some ear-plugs or drink a lot more beer too make me sleep through it!

Ta for all your help folks.
