having another poke around the van today, I came across this nasty surprise...

first pic is nearside front seatbelt mount (on top of wheel arch) from above, second is from below. It's hard to believe this went through the mot less than a year ago.

Mine went in the same place, though not quite as bad! Got it plated for the last MOT.

must be something to do with those expansion tanks. I cut it out and welded some 1mm plate on top and another underneath with the bolt welded on too - is that good enough for a seat belt mount? the seat belt bolt was just welded onto the the underneath of the wheel arch so I guess my repair is no worse but I'm a bit concerned about the safety of it.

better to find it now than when you need it to stop you going through the screen.

You will need more than 1mm plate. I recently have done this for someone and i welded in 3mm. It also needs seam welding which is a little trickier.

bugger, i was well pleased with the job i'd done on it. I'll be cutting it back out with much wailing and gnashing of teeth, should amuse my neighbour anyway.

That sounds like a plan. I did a search for them but can't get any more info other than a small pic and the price but might order them anyway. My shopping list is growing daily.
