Ahoy thar me hearties,

I plan to take the van on its first trip away on a touring trip of Wales, I was wondering i anybody could recommend some nice campsites-we don't have kids so we don't need kids facilities, when we went to Cornwall last year in the bay window we found some really nice quiet and small campsites that we just what we were after.
I have no idea where to head for but thought about heading for Tenby, are there any really nice places in Wales that are well worth going out of your way to visit? I've been to Aberyswyth when I was a lad which was nice and I've got some info on its way from the VisitWales website but that could take a short while to arrive.

Finally I have searched some other posts and I was wondering whether you think we ought to pre-book the sites now as we are planing to go between April 11th-17th so not sure if the kids will be off school then or what?

The working farm is a basic site, fantastic resturant 10 mins walkfrom the site

which is just around the corner from Elan valley Dams complex

just superbly central to everything... nice clean modern site

Cheers chaps I will check those links out, kev I'm not sure if it was you in another post but I was interested in the point that pre-booking a site almost takes away some of that freedom you want with a camper, last year we were lucky to travel around Cornwall without booking but then it was September and the kids had gone to school so everywhere was winding down for the season.

I don't have any camp site suggestions, as I've not been to Wales since I was 9. I am interested in this thread though, as that's where we are going on our honeymoon.

Does anybody have any details of good wild camping / sleepy spots?

the above mentioned site is FANTASTIC....the views are unreal, the site is spotless, the staff are extremely helpful and welcoming, the onsite warden is cracking....seem to remember this was in the top 10 campsites of 2008 and might have even been number 1 in the uk....its very very popular so book very early....its worth every single penny...

it came 3rd in itv's great views of britain or some or other

We stopped at this place last September after a very wet & muddy Vanfest. The site is located a few miles east of Builth Welles and situated in a very quiet spot. The site is very clean and tidy and run on a honesty principal. The toilets, showers and laundry facilities are good. If your into walking and want some peace and quiet this is for you.Bear in mind it was early September. We will be going back.

Hi, we stayed at newgale last august and its was great masive beach and a great site only £5each a nite great toilet block and only takes tents and campers.

If your visiting West Wales then go towards St Davids - the Newgale site mentioned earlier would be a good base for this. If your going to visit one beach on your tour make sure it's Barafundle Bay - stunning!!!

depends where your heading north /south plenty of wild camping spots around n/wales

If you like mountain walking, The Cwmrhwyddfor Farm campsite at Tal Y Llyn is hard to beat. A route up wonderful Cader Idris is 2 mins walk away. Quite a basic serviceable campsite, but beautiful location with Cader Idris towering above you. WOW! thanks for the suggestions-will def stay in some of these sites including Three Cliffs if we can get in there-they don't take bookings which is fine with me....as long as we can get a pitch.
