I've got 2 new pods to fit (none were fitted to the van when I got it) any tips for fitting them and do I need any seals/jubilee clips to re-fit them and should I just wire them to be permanently open

No seals just "tin on tin" from what I remember but may require a couple of jubilees for the bellows side and if the cables ain`t working tie wrap loops hooked to the cable retaining bracket allows you to have them open or closed as required

I take it if I don't have the cables and I leave them open all the heat will come straight through and I won't be able to control it via the dash?

Something like that but can`t recall if they spring open or shut now

Might be open as they seem to open when you push the lever

they spring shut and divert all the warm air out to the ground

New cables are easy enough to fit so long as you spray a bit of WD40 down the plastic sheaths first and get them the right way around!

Although the levers on the new pods that were installed for me didn't seem to fit the ends of the cable (the ends were rotated through 90°) so I had to rig up a way to secure them using bits of a terminal block.
