I need to change my leaking skylight and I was wondering if I measure it from side to side inside or take the outside measurements?
I dont want to buy thr wrong size!

New fiamma vents need a square opening of 40cmx40cm. Mine being an old roof vent was the older and smaller 36x36 so I just cleaned the old one and resealed it back on instead of messing around opening up the hole

The dimensions of mine are
end to end - 18.5x18.5
inner to inner - 14.5x14.5

I really need a new one 'cos as soon as I hit 70km+ the skylight pops up making for a very cold van.

You ideally need to know the size of the hole in the roof.

I have just replaced my skylight with a 360mm square roof from oleary's, be aware that this roof light is designed for static vans and as such has fits a roof 70mm thick! I had to cut the plastic sides down to 30mm and build a wood frame to go between roof and headlining. not a dificult job if you are handy with a few tools.

I would recommend that you remove the part of your skylight inside the van so you can measure the existing hole, at least you wont have a gaping hole while you wait for new vent to come.

if you have a flat area on the roof to accept a 400mm square vent go for one of these (my roof had a weird profile so i was forced to replace with a 360mm vent).

Fiamma do good 400mm vents for £30 but price goes up by an extra £10 if you want a clear or opace vent light. another option is MK who also do 400mm vents and you dont need to drill so many holes in the roof. You probably can find both at a local caravan shop so no need to pay the postage & you can see what your buying.

When you come to fit, use stainless steel screws if using Fiamma vent or the elixr 360mm from o'learys, and you will need loads -around 24- and plenty of silicone masitic to sandwich between vent & roof.

What type of roof have you? a Devon side lift? The hole in my Devon roof was 360mm, I had to enlarge it to take my 3 speed Omnistor, but be aware that if it is a Devon there is little room for the 400mm roof light without cutting the hole right forward to the inbuilt roof reinforcing steel box sections.
