Axeman,

There must be other symptons, what are they.. ?

Syncro fuel filler pipe can leak, smell of fuel?

Has it got a catayltic converter?

Is the lambda sensor still connected?

=====

Are all the tyres the same and equally worn?

Is this on long or short runs?

looks like your getting 20.8mpg (to me) hammering it?? 25mpg crusing 55mph, Depends what your carring too! Is it a camper? Single cab? Carravelle? Or just a van?

its a doka with no weight on it at the moment, i am dooing about 5miles to work and not hammering it, the exaust is bolwing at the moment, no crapy smoke it drives very well. there is no cat, no labarda thing that i know of, allthough the water temp gauge dose not sceem to be working as it rearley moves above the white zone even on a long run, hovever the cooling fan up front by the rad still comes on when sitting in trafic.

any ideas thanks neil

That hole the size of a 10p in your exhaust might have somthing to do with it maybe?

You'd have to be more specific about the actual miles and actual litres on a brim-to-brim basis to really know if it really was bad

The about this and about that figures you quoted give 19mpg, so it could easily be 17 (bad) or 21 (OK)

Short runs, lots of choke and little cruising, always cold (19 ~20 about right maybe, esp. if you use it a bit)

MV's should have a lambda sensor, if euro maybe a cat..

I'd suggest you:
Fix the hole in the exhaust
Find out why the temp gauge doesn't show normal temps

Then do some 'proper' brim-to-brim weeks, and come back with the figures (don't over-brim it, fill at the same station and at the first click-off, leave it at that, if the spill valves or pipework aren't perfect they tend to initially lose some on corners or hills (does it ver smell of petrol??)

Welcome to the world of syncro!!

Yeah over 19mpg, for short runs with a blowy exhaust, Seems about right.
Give it a full service, check timing etc etc

No such thing as a cheap Syncro!!
