changing a t25 dizzy to 009

hi all
i bought a t25 camper which runs niceley but the dizzy seems to be faulty as it keeps providing sparkes all over the place and then pops nown and
again out off the exuast. then it starts to run rough. i have had the timeing done and the mechanich said it was the dizzy at fault.
I have tried to get hold off another dizzy but they dont seem to stock them anymore. I have been advised by just kampers to buy a 009 dizzy. i was advised that i would have to play with the wires as they dont have a plug on the dizzy like the current one. how would i rewire it all to fit a 009 dizzy.
thanks john

1.
http://www.brickwerks.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; for a rebuild kit
or
2.
http://www.syncrospares.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; for a second hand one.
or
3. do not buy a 009

unlikely to be the dizzy more likely the electronic control unit on the engine bay wall or some defective wiring - both cheap to replace with 2nd hand units.

I have to admit that I suspected for some time that JK are nothing more than box shifters and the stuff I have seen on there recently looks pretty poor.

009 = throw it in the bin and replace it with an SVDA distributor. 009 distributors and Solex 34 Pict-3 carburetors just don't get on together !!
Genuine mexican Bosch SVDA distributors (avoid the aftermarket crap) are available from VW Heritage.

Cripes this has been said so many times. You can in theory get a 009 to work but frankly it'll be poo. Even on beetle lumps they were poo. They run but nowhere near as good as the right one. JK stock 'em cos thats all there is new but it still won't be as good as a tidy s/h one. Any lathe man worth his/her salt can rebuild a dizzy. Somehow over the years the myth has perpetuated that 009's are actually better than stock. They are not. Thats ony really valid on a highly tuned lump and even then, everything else has to be set up right too.
I'd only fit one as a 'get you home' measure.

Is that an original one? If so, how much would you like for it? It'll come in handy for me in case I need a spare.

Sorry Umgum, on reflection my post seems a little fierce. Didn't mean it to be - honest.
It does want writing up in the WIKI though. They really don't suit these engines at all well, even the Aircooled variety. It is possible to machine a 009 to make it more suitable and have done that in the past in a machine shop with a change of base plate as required but its probably easier to refurb an original.
On the bug, with a 009 we just used to tune the engine up for maximum range without any pinking but you'd see the difference when you fit the right one. Mostly what goes on a dizzy is wear in the centre shaft, cam wear or a knackered base plate. With standard points, wear in the shaft or on cam makes it impossible to set the dwell correctly making for very unpredictable performance - usually crap acceleration or lumpy idle. Its also possible to strip down a few dizzies and make a half decent one out of the lot. Really useful if theres a garden shed engineer around though as they can sort these things out fairly simply, same with carbs and getting them rebushed etc.
