Just want to say a massive thanks to everyone thats given advice since we bought our new single cab syncro.
We have been in alot of clubs, triumph, mini, other vw clubs, and this one takes the biscuit for being helpful!!
Thanks especially goes to Jake, what a great guy. Came down from his home to ours last night after work after he heard of our worries with the syncro, and helped put it through its paces!! Great fun and really helpful. What a man to put himself out for us, hope the other half didnt mind too much!
Feeling much better now, seems to be working better than I thought!
Glad someone else thinks its a good buy, makes the missus feel a bit happier.
Cant wait now to do some real off roading, wife just wants to know, are the weekends child freindly, got 2 little ones

How little is little?

The last Coney Farm meet had many children and though they couldn't participate "on the hill" as it were they did seem to be having a good time with all the usual bikes, footballs, collie dog, etc.

Did it pass the VC test?

The weekends are very child-friendly - lots of people bring kids to them, so there's always plenty of watchful eyes.

Are your diff locks saveable/working?

Didnt get everything tested, as it was late and a bit too dark, but hoping to get together with Jake and jack it up and test the diffs etc
Took it out and he went over what is what, as I really was ignorant to the whole 4 x 4 thing, feel abit more knowledgable now !
Still more to do but getting there. going to get underneath it now to spray the unit with wd 40 as per my instructions!

Our little ones are only 2 and 4, absolutly car and van mad, what else could they be growing up in a family with numerous vw's!! Got older one's too, so sure they would love it, but always worry about the littllones, if they are in the way!!

Use PlusGas or Double T rather than WD-Rubbish.

Take off the diff lock indicator light switch and hose said fluid in there over a few nights.

I have a slide hammer that I use to get lockers working if you want to borrow it.

I must admit I don't take my little little ones to Syncro things but only because I wonder if they would get bored (there are other reasons of ex wife and court orders I wont go into).

Coney has a clear seperation of Camping and "Course" with no horsing around in Syncros in the camping bit and on past experience there are more marshals than you can shake a stick at. It can be quite a way from the camp bit to any particular stage so spectating with little ones can be a treck. If they are up to camping in a field and cope with the fact that one parent may be "missing" for a large amount of daylight time you should be fine.

Finally got 5 mins to post...

Good to meet you and t'other half John. You have yourself a very nice Single Cab. Pts many others to shame. Rust only really starting to take hold in the usual places. Good locker doors/loadbed etc etc. All very tidy.

All 4 tyres are the same tread depth/size/make etc. Gearbox shifts nicely too

Took it for a drive to a playing field around the corner to test the difflocks on soft ground. Front one works fine, nice and quick. Rear one didna work at all. Crawled around explaining whats what and pointed out to John where to spray the PlusGas (Double TT etc - as DH says best avoid WD40, its not as good!).

It got too late and dark so we didn't have the time to properly test the VC. We will do that next time...Ideally before you drive it any great distance John...

Cheers again, off to Halfords to get some of the good stuff.
I have a sliding hammer which I lent to a friend, so that reminds me I must go get it back!

Oh yeah, one other thing was it was missing the Diesel Engine/gbox bashguard... So it'll need one of those at somepoint. Really, before you do any offroading...

Been to Halfords, cant get either of those lubricants, only got 3 in 1 proffesional high performance, is that any good, or should I hold fire til I can find what you recommend

Motorists discount is better than Halfrauds, at least round here it is or better yet a proper hardware store.

B&Q 'Hell Stores' normally have TT on the checkouts.

Local hardware-type shops often have PlusGas.
