Simple Split Charge Question

Hi everyone,

My van has a split charge relay as shown in the wiki but I have a quick (possibly silly) question:

If the leisure battery is fully charged does the relay stop charging it? Or is it possible to overcharge the leisure battery? And does this even matter?

Thanks! Jay

Standard split charge relay wiring does not disconnect the alternator from charging the leisure battery while the enging is running. As the battery charges (assuming it is not faulty) it demands less charge current from the alternator. A faulty alternator can overcharge/damage batteries however.
