NO it's 'gasoil' or 'red' ... i.e. it's diesel which doesn't have duty charged on it unlike road diesel. If you get the tank dipped and the ministry or H.M. Customs catch you they'll have the van away.

and as an added bonus they'll charge you back duty for the whole period you've owned the van.
even the slightest trace of red in the system is detectable so it just isn't worth it. the van will run ok on it tho.

I always thought that central heating fuel was paraffin based and pale yellow in colour.

i belive your allowed a certain % to show as it can sometimes be the caser that the tanker has delivered this type of fuel before carrying normal diesel and still has traces sitting in the hoses etc which can then fush through into the next batch of fuel it's carrying. You can also get rid of the dye by filtering it through bread (not sure how much you need though)

I wouldn't try arguing that percentage as you walk home after they impound your van and do their £££££ sums.
Titas I can't comment on the Teutonic heating oil but British is red.

Red heating oil is the same as red diesel, runs fine in everything diesel.
Fine is £250 and I know of loads of guys that have used it and been caught, so far no-one has been back taxed.
Yellowish Heating oil is like diesel but with no lubricating properties so for running in a diesel engine needs oil adding.
about 5% seems to be the average, i.e 100ml per tankfull. dependant on oil.
otherwise diesel pump knackers.

Welcome to the club
Sadly I DO know of people who've been pulled, dipped, fined AND charged back tax. From memory because they couldn't prove when he'd started using it they took the mileage from his R/Rover's MOT when he bought it and charged him 24p/mile (?) up to his mileage when stopped. IIRC it cost him £1,500 odd to get it back ... that's 15 years ago ... I don't know what the fine is now.
I recall it was a R/Rover with the Italian VM engine in it.
