Hi Guys,

Bought a new fuel tank for my DJ from Just Kampers. Anyone know if there's like a fitting kit or something that has all the appropriate gaskets, seals and washers (I presume they'll all need to be replaced?).

I can see some, but not all, available on the JK site. I would have thought the bloody thing came with them!

Hi It is not a bad job to replace.

Just kampers do do a kit but I think it comes with the tank...

In my experience it is a wise move to replace all of the grommets on the top..2 I believe and the sealing ring around the filler neck.
Also senders can be a pain if they are disturbed so it might be an idea to change this also.

Finally change your fuel lines....

as far as i know you should still be able to buy the gromets and seals from VW
i did for mine last year, might still have the reciept with the part numbers and prices
before you fit the tank, i'd recomend buying some brushable seam sealer, and coating the breather pipes that run along the top of the tank

i've circled them in red, from what i've learn't about T3's it seems a common problem for them to rot though, causing water ingress into your tank
if your bus is a keeper, i'd say it's a must

The tank from JK did not come with seals and unfortunately they're out of stock of quite a few of the parts I need...

I've booked it into a garage as I assumed it's something that couldn't be done at home? Am I wrong? I have a trolley jack, two ramps and some axle stands but I didn't think that'd be enough!

I managed OK with the front wheels up on ramps. The jack is required to lower/lift the tank so you can get your hands in to remove/fit the breather tubes etc. One of the bolts holding the strap upto the chassis sheared , so needed a bit of work.

The challenge is where to store all that fuel that you drained 1st of all, even though the guage said the tank was empty.

As sugested before , replace all the rubber pipes connecting the expansion tanks etc. at the same time.

You'll never need the rest of the seals, they just swap out of the old tank.
Only ones I have ever had to fit new are ones I've lost doing the job, usually to turn up weeks later under a pile of crap on the corner.
