What can cause a front disc to bind?

Front near-side, was binding on....hot & smelly. What could cause that?
seized caliper , either pistons or sliders on calipers (later type)
pads seized in caliper
collapsed flexi brake pipe
faulty master cylinder(but would be a pair of brakes(unless one was seized off)
