Rubbish flexible fuel pipe

I lowered my fuel tank some years ago to replace the flexible fuel pipes as there was a petrol fume smell when filling. It worked o.k. for about 3 years and the smell was back and I had petrol drips under the van in the forecourt when I filled it full. The tank is a new one. I have heard that most fuel pipe from accessory shops is Chinese Mickey Mouse stuff that lasts no time at all. i.e. about one year in the engine bay of my last Aircooled VW. No wonder VW 's catch fire at intervals. Can anyone recommend where to get some good pipe as I am getting too old for this job every three years.

I think your problem is that you have been using non petrol grade pipe.
A lot of the stuff being sold is not suitable for petrol and is intended for coolant use and degrades relatively quickly when exposed to petrochemicals.
Just make sure you buy the correct grade and stay clear unless it's type and use are clearly marked.
I use a company called Tennant Rubber for hose.
