Re-Covering Cupboards

Our van is a 1984 Holdsworth hightop. The interior looks pretty sound and solid but has one major problem. The previous owner decided to paint over the 1980's retro wood look cupboards with a nice shade of dog sh*t brown gloss paint!!! :x
Don't want the hassle or expense of replacing the whole interior and was wondering what to do. Thought about trying to remove the paint but this would probably lift the original laminate. Don't want to re-paint it as i quite like the idea of the woodgrain look. So waht about laminating on top of whats there already? Has anybody done this and if so where do I start? what do I buy? and how does it all work?

Thanks and look forward to reading your replies.

Martin

your suggesting the fablon method of covering right?... I would say it should be OK providing the paint your sticking it too is not full of runs etc and there are no big deep chinks out of the doors/panels your covering

We had similar with green gloss and covered them with fablon...i recently pulled a bit of fablon off and it brought most of the paint with it as the original units had not been primed in any way - stick some tape to the paint and lift it...you may be pleasantlly surprised how easy it comes off

Do a proper job. Peel off the old laminate and stick on some new. Takes time but well worth doing.
