calor gas in bristol

I need to get a gas canister for my van (fridge and hob). It's currently got an adaptor for butane. I was going to get a 4.5kg blue calor gas butane. Does anyone know the height/diameter of the bottle so i can check it will fit in my gas cupboard.

Is there any difference between this and a 907 camping gaz one? Not used gas since i got the van (it came without a bottle), so wanted to get the gas checked over for safety. Anywhere round bristol way that can sort this, as don't think my garage will do the gas? Want to be ready to get away at the first sign of spring :D

The smallest calor bottle is a bigger than a Camping Gaz 907 by a couple of inches in diameter and about 4 inches in height, and obviously a different regulator.

All the sizes of Calor bottles are on this page http://www.calor.co.uk/faq/cylinders.htm

Do a search for "caravan service" on Google maps based on your postcode or yellow pages and have a ring round. Just explain that you need to have your gas installation checked over and get an idea of price from a couple of them. See who seems the friendliest and have a drive over. They'll be able to sort you out with the reg, new hoses and a bottle that will fit. Ask them about the pros & cons of butane versus propane too if you're planning on cold weather camping.

Hope this helps

Thanks andi. I've found a couple of places that'll do cylinders and regulators, so might go and have a look at the weekend. Still need to find someone to do the service.

Will probably go for propane, as i won't be doing much winter camping. Might do a couple of weeks in france though. Is there an adapter to convert from a 4.5kg calor propane regulator to camping gaz, or a regulator that will fit both?

I got the gas and regulator fitted, but am struggling to replace the hose. It's got a jubilee clip at one end, but a crimped screw fitting at the other.

Is this a standard fitting, such as on here...http://www.gasandhireltd.com/index.php? ... &ref=p1313?

I was thinking if the small connector fitted i could just cut off the regulator end and use a jubilee clip.

cheers.

Calor outlets are getting scarcer. I use a place at the top of Filton Hill for Calor. You have to get to it by coming UP the hill towards Bristol. My local rubbish disposal point has a compound full of canisters of all sorts but not sure of regulations about blagging one off them.

Thanks getunder. Managed to get gas and regulator from a hardware shop in Westbury on Trym, so now sorted for that. I wanted calor as the 4.5kg bottles are the only thing that fits in the gas cupboard other than camping gaz. Have to say the guys at Andy's Gas were very helpful, but they only do flogas and camping gaz.

Still stuck on this hose thing though. Might just have to order one and hope for the best :?

Good old Mogfords in Westbury -on Trym. Was always good for the fiddly bits for obsolete things in old cardboard boxes.
